Timeline

Solutia just celebrated its 100th anniversary as a diversified chemical company. Since 1953 Solutia has produced high quality nylon 6,6 fibers and polymer.

Monsanto Chemical Works founded in St. Louis, Missouri, USA

1933
Name changed to Monsanto Chemical Company

1949
Chemstrand Company is established

  • Joint venture between Monsanto and American Viscose

  • Chemstrand invents process to make Acrilan acrylic Fibers

1953
Chemstrand opens its first nylon 66 plant in Pensacola, Florida, USA

  • Pensacola is still the world’s largest wholly integrated nylon facility

1960
Chemstrand opens its second nylon 66 plant in Greenwood, South Carolina

1961
Monsanto acquires full ownership of Chemstrand Company

  • Chemstrand name changed to Monsanto Textile Company

1962
Wear Dated fiber warranty program started

Monsanto invents Astroturf synthetic fibers
